I'm not saying that he should know every card, strategy or archetype. It's cool if you get blown out by an instant you did not know or a rare you didn't see, but you should know what your own cards do and what your opponent's cards do if they are in front of you on the battlefield. For a person that does Event coverage, yes, it is inexcusable and embarrassing to watch.

Rocky 17, inexcusable!?! That's a bit harsh. These retro-drafts are mostly for fun. I know for one if I play one, I am not going to do a ton of research on a set I have never played before just to be able to play well. This time around I have decided to forego the older draft sets (just don't have time to learn two new sets). I will have fun playing Cube, but even then I will be like Marshall says - just playing them more fun for the fun factor, thus playing them Swiss.

There is a lot going on in the MGT world right now, so I know Marshall and the LRR guys and Simon have a lot more things to do then become experts in older draft sets just so they can "perform well" for you on MTGOAcademy.

I for one am reading and re-reading Dragon's Maze cards trying to be as ready as possible.

Hello Marshall,
Nice videos again. This format proves how important it is to do your homework before the draft. The common strategy in this format is to try to keep as close to mono color as possible. Red, red/black, and red/green in the first 2 packs and then red, red/blue, and red/white in eventide. Usually the drafter only branches out into a second color if they open or get passed a bomb out of the main color. The 3 mana uncommon's are also really good to pick up on color. Maybe you can draft this again for next week, but I imagine I'll be happy to see you cube draft again.
