2010 Community Cup Challenger Team Announced

The 2nd MTGO Community Cup Challenge participants have been announced, and MTGOacademy’s own founder, contributer, and “wampire” lord extraordinaire, Marin aka Plejades on MTGO has been invited! Details regarding the announcement can be found at the MTG Online homepage: HERE. Joining Marin are a host of MTGO players as well as some members of the MTG fledgling press core and even a Magic Online Community volunteer from the WotC forums!

For those of you not as intimate with the man that made MTGOacademy possible, let us paint you the portrait of Plejades. Marin has been playing Magic since Arabian Nights and MTGO since Version 3 was released. Arriving in the digital world shortly after the MTGO dark age ended (a few weeks without servers), Marin took his $9.99 new account creation coupon (now replaced with the new account package) and incessantly traded until he had an account stuffed with lovely foils for 100 Card Singleton use (at one point beating our editor, so many trolls, so many times that Travis blocked Marin on MTGO)! During MED2 drafts, he achieved a Limited rating so high that he was in the Top 10 of the MTGO Limited Hall of Fame (which some might refer to as success- but all MTGOacademy staffers know only as the true sign of addiction). These days you’ll find Marin up late, working away on the site (when he’s not drafting 8-4 ZZW or fighting the urge to buy foil Dual Lands), powered solely by his love for the game (and a large, unending cauldron of coffee).

For those of you not familiar with the Community Cup Challenge, it consists of a series of formats where WotC employees face off against the Challengers (MTGO Community members selected by WotC to represent their contributions in making MTGO and Magic the great experience that we all enjoy). The first Community Cup ended in a Challenger victory, and all MTGO denizens (that registered in the proper thread- for this upcoming event, stay tuned to mtgonline.com so you know how to register your account for free things!) received a FREE Momir Vig, Simic Visionary Avatar! The Constructed formats for this year’s CCC have been announced (see the announcement HERE), and they are Unified Commander and Unified Standard! You can help the MTGO Community by using the Commander Suggestion Thread or the Standard Suggestion Thread to let your thoughts be heard on these two, unique formats- you can bet that the Challenger team will appreciate all the advice that they can get! Also, make sure to leave your MTGO Username in your post so WotC knows which account you use (should they bestow upon you a nifty gift). If you don’t have any advice, you can still wish the team best of luck on our site or the WotC thread (HERE).

So, Community Cup Challenger team members, “Hello and good luck.”
