  1. Hey guys, hope you enjoy the vids! Sorry about the sound in round 4, it should be fixed sometime soon. Any comments and criticisms are still appreciated.

And look for my article on SCG covering the deck next Monday night!

  2. I can say that I am not ashamed to learn my protips from someone 6 years my junior. :) To the 2mans!

  3. No audio in the last match. But still, thanks for the vids. :)

Zwick is going to hook me up with a Block deck. I’m terrible but I think I’m going to give it a go.

  4. I think Abyssal Persecutor is a liability, especially as a 4-of. I don’t think you should’ve been able to win your 4th round, game 1. Maybe as a 3-of? I like the dude, but drawing multiples of him when you can’t brainstorm them back into your deck is pretty terrible with only a few ways to remove them.

  5. I agree with the poster above that Persecutor is probably a 3 of. But, as far as how you played him; he is a 4 drop, not a 6 drop. If you are going to wait to play him on turn 6 or 7 you are probably better off with a titan. Against the ramp deck, if you just would have put him out on turn 4, you could have easily won. Maybe the style of play for this deck doesn’t want him there because you would rather just stand back and counter until turn 6 or 7.

I was pretty impressed with ratchet bomb. I thought of it as a sideboard card more than a main deck card, but I am leaning more towards main decking it. I run 4 into the roils to help bounce persecutors and I think going 2 roils and 2 bombs would be good. Its a bit of a different style of deck than this, but I play gatekeepers as another way to remove persecutors. I have always thought of them as a package deal, since gatekeeper is just so strong. Because I play gatekeepers, I am then open to play flesh allergy since I will usually have a creature on the board to throw if I need to and persecutor isn’t on the board.

I don’t on the other hand have the stoic rebuttals in the deck, and they looked very solid. But I think they are the reason you aren’t playing the persecutor to its full ability, as you are hanging around on turns 4 and 5 waiting to counter stuff instead of playing your win con. I would be tempted to just drop the rebuttals for removal, play out your persecutor on turn 4 then handle their turn 4/5 play with removal or into the roil.

Thanks for the videos though. I enjoyed watching another UB deck play out. Its a shame we still don’t have agony warp, but we still have a lot of good cards.

  6. Admittedly, I didn’t realize that the deck should probably be racing ramp decks at the time. You’re probably right in that I could have dropped Persecutor sooner and had a much better shot at winning. I was really testing the boundaries of how many Persecutors I could play with few answers, and I found that that configuration needed to be fixed.

I’m opposed to playing more than 2 Into the Roil. It’s just not a card that I would want to see a lot of. My next update will probably include 1-2 Into the Roil and 1-2 Ratchet Bomb. Gatekeeper hasn’t really appealed to me. Consuming Vapors costs 1 more, but doesn’t require BBB, and it offers the ability to kill 2 creatures (or 2 Abyssal Persecutors if it comes to that). With that being said, having the ability to bounce Gatekeeper with Jace is also worth noting. I will probably test some Gatekeepers out. Flesh Allergy? Not so sure about that one.

You are certainly right about that. The deck is not the typical control deck and I figured that out after this DE. Stoics are currently at 0, but are not out of the question.

Agony Warp would be better than Smother, but not Doom Blade. Disfigure might actually be better than Agony Warp. Have you considered that?

  7. I have been playing UB for about a month and i’d say w/ mono r and boros you really want some number of disfigure in the SB. I still like to run it as a 4 of in the sb. Maybe that’s wrong but I love it.

  8. Well, apologies everyone, round 4 is sans sound due to overwhelming technical difficulties :*(

  9. Great vids, cool to actually see u/b in action.

Question, When i hover over cards with the mouse, i just get text not a card popup… How do you make the cards get larger instead?

  10. As far as disfigure being better than agony warp ; the mana difference is certainly notable. Being able to kill something and effect combat of another creature is really worth the extra mana though (admittedly unearth red deck and Jund are gone now so maybe it isn’t that good) Granted, disfigure does what you need it to, i.e. a sphinx kills that baneslayer (or maybe frost titan is more relevant to say now). I will look into disfigure more though. I run 2 out of the board, but maybe I will try it main. As far as flesh allergy, sure bone splinters was 10 times better, but it is nice to have a way to remove persecutor that can’t be countered, albeit an early brittle effigy does the same thing, but I just haven’t embraced that card yet, especially since I don’t run trinket mage. At only one more mana to play and trigger in the same turn, it imay be better though, and I will try and throw in some effigy. This past Friday night I just removed the flesh allergies for 2 ratchet bombs (taking a queue from this video), and while I didn’t get to play them much, I did wreck an elf deck with it once, and I can see the merit of the bomb in the “mirror” to fight back Jace.

Again, thanks for the videos, and thanks for the comments. I would love to see videos showing how the deck evolves and how it changes with the meta.

  11. Memoricide is a fine card, but I don’t see it as being all that important. That’s just me though, I could be wrong, but I’ve never really liked cards like that (Cranial Extraction and Extirpate).

My article will go up on SCG tonight that covers the deck and it has a new list in it. I’m still playing with it and think it’s a great deck.
