Building Blocks: Esper Control in the new RTR Block

You can find me on Twitter @leemcleo.

  1. Do not play RTR block. It should be boycotted due to its awful prize structure.

    Hello Lee,
Aetherling is very good in the esper control deck. Your deck has enough removal to live to 7 mana to cast Aetherling against aggro. Then it requires the aggro deck to use 2 or more removal spells to get rid of it before you untap. Mono red’s main source of removal is mortars which Aetherling lives through, and the aggro deck is usually out of gas by that time. Against control you can attest to how hard it is to deal with if it ever hits the board. The only deck I can think of that can punish an aetherling is a ramp deck with big tramplers. Thanks for the content, loose plays and all.

  3. That is the troll/impostor kezzerdrix posting again, not me, the real one.

Everyone knows that block constructed has great prize structure.

  4. When you haven’t made your land drop you should mainphase the revelation. He isn’t going to play any differently and you weren’t in a position where you’d have to discard!

Ætherling seems like a much better maindeck card than Angel of Serenity, in part for the reasons wyldcat mentioned. It’s a way of closing out games very quickly. When each control player has one out and about 15 lands in play, it’s just a race to see who can get the most hits in (i.e. who has most instant speed removal spells to prevent an attack). The card is not real.

Enjoying the content alot by the way!

  5. @everyone: I agree about Aetherling a lot. I severely underestimated the card due to never having played it before (first day of DGM after all). :)
