Hot or Not? A Price Prediction Contest.

Hello everyone,

as I am always eager to increase communication and comments we are going to start a small series that showcases some upcoming cards from the next set and ask a simple question: “Hot or Not?”

You simply comment for each card posted with a “Hot” if you believe that this card will be worth more then 2 Event Tickets two weeks after online release* or “Not” if you believe that card will be worth less then 2 Event Tickets two weeks after release. The person that has the most correct hits at the end will receive a foil Umezawa’s Jitte for his wise predictions.

Only registered members votes will be counted. It’s fast, free and easy!

Oh, and please only one vote per member! We are closing the voting on May 7th!

So without further ado here are the candidates for today – “Hot or Not?”

*Online release is for our purpose defined as the day when “Rise of the Eldrazi” boosters are officially available for purchase at the Wizards online store.

 

  1. Well, since Realms depicts a rather saucy elven gal and the other ones look like an evil salad and a bunch of geometry homework, I’ll say HOT for Lands Ungiven!

Well Vengevine is going to be a beast with pretty much any green deck that has cascade I would have to say he is going to be amazing a 4/3 hast for 4 is already good especially with built in recursion. Eldrazi Temple isn’t something I really see being competitive, but I’m sure timmy players will pick them up to play casual games with the Eldrazi. Realms Uncharted might not seem like oh wow at first, but in formats with life from the loam the card is amazing! First of all its green so no need to fix for blue and its 1 less than gifts ungiven which is already played in a variety of loam decks. Its the same cost as intuition, but again its green instead of blue and this time u get 4 cards! My verdict.

    Vengevine – Hot

    Eldrazi Temple – Not (Although I could see casual timmys increasing this cards value)

    Realms Uncharted – Hot

    The first one is a hyped up mythic, the second one will be in demand for Eldrazi ramp decks, and the last will be in demand for testing in older formats. All will be over 2 tickets 2 weeks after release :)

    If you wanted to cast Eldrazi spells in a 100CS deck, you could use Realms Uncharted to search for Eye of Ugin, Eldrazi Temple, Ancient Tomb, and Temple of the False God.

    Realms Uncharted mostly makes me more annoyed that Crucible and Loam are both banned in 100CS. It’s a waste of SO many deck ideas.

  10. I agree with Russell Tassicker. All above 2 tix. Furthermore, I predict the format slowing down considerably once Shards block rotates, at which point the temple will see a gradual increase and then spike in value potentially. I do not think Realms is a good card though. People say how it is awesome for tron, yet for 1 more you can just play Gifts, and for 1 less you have life from the loam. Plus, I believe the UW lists have the most success anyways. For legacy, the 38-45 land decks already have crucible & Life from the Loam, and I don’t see justification for cutting any of there cards to make room.

    Just my thoughts, I am probably wrong though.

  12. Vengevine – HOT, Despite me not thinking this card will stand up to the hype its recieving its a mythic and not terrible.

    Eldrazi Temple – NOT, This wont be worth more than 2 tix as even if there is an Eldrazi deck, that will be the only one that plays it. Look at the rares in Vampires, Malakir Bloodwitch for example is a very good card and only worth 1 tic.

    Realms Unchartered – NOT, I definatly do see this doing anything at all that other cards cant already do better.

    Realms Uncharted – Hot

    Reasoning: People will pay 2 tix for them even if all the bot prices are different, someone will be selling them for over 2 tix and someone will pay the cost. Supply and demand.

  17. Vengevine – Hot – People will try things with it and it’s mythic.

    Eldrazi Temple – Not – Not until next standard that will be less colourful. Mirrodin artifacts + Colorless Eldrazis splash?

    Realms “Unchartered” (i dont want to cut the chain) – Not – It won’t be a 4x in any loam deck because it can’t search the loam.

  18. Vengevine – Hot – It’a a mythic, so the bar is much lower than for a normal rare.

    Eldrazi Temple – Hot – People are going to try the Eldrazi deck. It may or may not work, but people are definitely going to try it. I think that that, along with the casual appeal will be sufficient to keep this card over 2 dollars. And if not, it will probably be a sleeper that will spike after Shards rotates.

    Realms Uncharted – Hot – This one is probably the most questionable of the lot. It is pretty sweet card draw for standard though. I think it will see some play at some point, and could even be the basis for a new archetype.

  20. Vengevine – Hot, just about any green deck is going to is capable of drop multiple creatures so this card becomes a bloodghast but for green and much bigger(we already know bloodghast is a 2 tix card)

    Eldrazi Temple – Hot, The format is going to slow and even if not think about having EYE of UGin and a couple Eldrazi Temple that makes and your dropping an 8/8 with annihilator(2) turn 5

    Realms Uncharted – Not, Much better land search cards like rampant growth and harrow where I don’t have to give up 2 lands to get 2 lands and just in my hand not even on the battlefield tapped or anything, so it will not see much play over Harrow. The only plus to this card over harrow is you can pull the special lands but if you are pulling a EYE of UGIN and an Eldrazi Temple, which 2 cards do you think your opponents is going to throw out?

    Realms Uncharted – Hot

    Temple is only going to be good because people will want to make Eldrazi decks. The rest will not beat Jund so they will not be that good.

  28. Vengevine: HOT (mythic)

    Eldrazi Temple: HOT (I think it will take about 3 weeks for it to drop below two tickets.)

    Realms Uncharted: NOT (Does not fit in any current decks and I haven’t seen any potential decks that would be built around this yet)

    Realms Uncharted – Not

  32. Vengevine – Hot (but only just – maybe 2.5 or so)

    Eldrazi Temple – Not (although it might be exactly at about 2 after 2 weeks)

    Realms Uncharted – Hot (will be tested a lot, but later the price might drop)

  33. Vengevine – Hot (it’s mytic and playable)

    Eldrazi Temple – Hot (Ppl are GOING to play the drazi deck and eye is over 2 so um yaa)

    Realms Uncharted – Not (sorry but to the general casual crowd this card really doesn’t scream PLAY ME)

    Realms Uncharted – hot (wet dream for knights of rel.)

  35. Vengevine – hot (mythic, high hype etc)

    Eldrazi Temple – not(has a chance of pushing 2tixs, but i dont think it can maintain it for any length of time)

    Realms Uncharted – Not (no where near as good as people seem to think it is)

  41. Vengevine – Hot [28 tix]
    Eldrazi Temple – Hot [ 3.5 tix]
    Realms Uncharted – Not [1.5 tix]

    The master has spoken.

  46. Vengevine: Hot. One of the best cards in the set.
    Eldrazi Temple: Not. Eye of Ugin is terribly inflated and I see the bubble bursting soon.
    Realms Uncharted: Not. The best home I can find for it is mythics.dec and there are better broken things than pumping KOTR.

  47. HOT, HOT, HOT
    All three will be worth over 2 tix.
    Vengevine is incredible and worth a lot more
    Temple is ok and some people will be trying to hard cast eldrazi
    Realms Uncharted. Deck thinning, Land drawing, Knight pumping goodness.
