Limited Resources: AVR Draft #5

  1. @fggjg

I understand that you don’t like AVR drafts and that’s fine, many don’t.

I don’t understand why you need to be a twat about it. The site has been full of Invasion block for the last week, so Marshall deciding to do only his 5th AVR draft is hardly a good reason to throw your toys out the pram.

  2. I definitely would have ran the Tormenter’s Trident over the Angelic Wall. Like you were saying, your deck was fairly aggressive although you did have some big fliers on the top end. However, with a Scrapskin Drake, a Seraph of Dawn, Wingcrafter with Thraben Valiants, all your big 5 and 6 drop fliers, and even Nearheath Pilgrim, Tormenter’s Trident seems like it would be quite good in your deck.

  3. Thank you so much for providing free content for people to complain about.

  4. great draft as always! this is one of those draft that I watch where I know I would have done some things in a diffrent way… and that would have been wrong of me. You played tight and well and I learned a thing or two.

    so thanks!

P.S, it’s also nice to be reminded that you are really good at your element (playing Limited). After watching you being tormented by TSG (whom I like for diffrent reasons) with that “top 8 monkeys” thing, it’s good that you returned to recording drafts.

  5. It’s funny. I somehow knew that you will draft UW before I even saw you picking a U or W card. Why is that, I wonder?

  6. Super nitpicky thing: I would usually leave W open if I could instead of U, just because Cloudshift+Righteous Blow > Fleeting Distraction.

  7. I did have the Burn at the Stake M1G3, so that’s why I out he Thunderous Wrath at your face.

  8. hi Marshall,

imo u are underestimating Voice of the Provinces with 2x Goldnight Commander. its an ok card anyways, but insano with 2x triggering the Commander.

  9. Thanks for the draft video, as always! You had some really tough picks in there, like the Seraph of Dawn vs. the Tandem Lookout. You also had some really big bombs passing by in other colors, which is always annoying – not only can’t you take them, but you’re likely to face at least some of them. Champion of Lambholt for example, and the Dark Impostor as well, along with some late Trusted Forcemages. A very tricky draft indeed.

  10. Hey Marshal

In the final game you attacked with the gold knight commander knowing it was a deathtouch 1/1, Why when on any crackback the goldknight would of been able to block much more damage then 1?

  11. Marshall,
Natural ends sided in in game 2 after I saw the Moonsilver spear in your round 1 replays. They were definitely not main deck. Also, game 3 when I did nothing for a couple turns I actually clicked through my 2nd main too fast, intending to put out some critters…

    Stage fright or something?

Only your mana flood allowed me to get it done despite my pretty big errors. It was fun to play you, wish I’d taken the opportunity to chat a bit more. :-)

  12. @Nookingway

Even having Burn at the Stake in hand, I think the correct play would still be to remove the Goldnight Commander and attack. The Vampire gets a counter, and even though it gets Crippling Chilled, you still get in for 2, taking Marshall down to 11. He would also be left with only a drake, which can’t block your next attack, which would take him down to 9 the next turn. Maybe if you already had 3 mountains and 2 forests in play, you can go for it, but the commander is such a beating (especially with vigilance), its a big risk leaving him on the board.

Keep the free content coming Marshall! For as long as your new found fame as a MTG broadcaster will allow!

  13. Marshall’s tips for draft strategy, #47:
“Eh, none of these cards are very good, except for this one… so we’ll take it.”
