  1. take steam vents over selesnya guildgate…two seconds later…”no gates in the deck yet…..” love ur vids marshall just razzin ya a bit

  2. Not only did you rare draft the Steam Vents over the Selesnya Guildgate, but you took a Concordia Pegasus over Axebane Guardian, then within 10 seconds complained about having no mana fixing. :(

I hope the games turn out well… had a great start to the draft then it just fell apart. You got passed practically nothing in that 3rd pack.

  3. Do you think it would have been worthwhile to grab the two etherial armors, and possibly the sphere of safety in the RTR pack?

  4. Match 2 Game 2 When you put unflinching courage on Druid and he did not block. You had double strike from boros charm for lethal

  5. M2G2, I noticed you didn’t seem to be considering the Double Strike mode of Boros Charm. It is crazy with the trample that the Unflinching Courage gives your guys! :D

  6. It’s easy to forget all the modes on your charms – especially when you get locked into the “protect” mode on Boros by keeping up the indestructibility!

I’ve actually made the opposite mistake – trying to work out a double-strike that is lethal when the 4 to the dome would do it or then forget to protect my creatures with the indestructibility!

Those charms can be tricky! How many play the Simic as purely the +3/+3 when the bounce or the hexproof is a better trick?

  7. I don’t understand why people don’t like Gruul War Chant. You already had the ZT Druid on board. That card is a beast.

  8. I do have a feeling the third guy had some other bombs you didn’t see – he was obviously playing a Travis Woo 5-color monstrosity. Woo has to play some doorkeepers and such to get him to his bombs, but if you have ever seen his flying/trampling ruination worm games, you are missing a treat! Unfortunately if you draw all your gates and just your crackling perimeter, it is hard to stop your opponent’s offense. Good plays, Marshall, (as always)! Thanks for showing us a 2-color splash deck with no bombs can go the distance!

  9. MM, it all has to do with Marshall’s attitude towards cards that are “well-rounded” for all aspects of the game. If you have ever drawn Gruul War Chant with 1 or 0 creatures out and behind in life total, it does NOTHING for you. It is a situational “win-more” type of card. I love it when I am playing Gruul and/or Boros but it does not help you come from behind at all – same with Gleam of Battle – win more if you are attacking and winning – useless when you are behind!

  10. Wierd that you got cut from gw in the rtr pack. It looks as if multiple drafters at your table were being greedy with their colors and just cutting the best cards regardless of color. This ended up being good for you as the 4/5 color decks ended up weak as a result which let your mediocre 2 color deck steal one.

The druid was a mistake in your deck. He really is a bad lobber crew in your deck as you can’t rely on the ramp and that’s just not worth it. Not playing around a trick when he swings in with the 2/2 evolve was really bad. You had already seen that flash card from him and he had been consevative with that guy in the past. Expecting to be able to just trade was unrealistic when he had 6 open mana.

    Good content as always.

  11. With 2 Unflinching courage as well as a Give//take id slam Rubbleback Rhino over Slime Molding

  12. Man, the signals… passing war chant and firefist striker first pack gives people down the line the signal that red is open. Not seeing that g/w was very open means that you won’t get a good pack three. Not seeing any gates from pick 4 first pack means that you won’t see any late gates, in particular not pick 8 first pack.

It seems you were on automode during the draft, which is a shame.

  13. i agree with frizzel in that the third guy MUST have had something that he just couldn’t play… otherwise i would find it rather hard to see how he got to round three on a crackling perimiter experiment

  14. Great games Marshall as always. Although, I winced win you grabbed the Steam Vents over the Guildgate, but that sort of thing happens.

  15. Always look forward to these videos and will definitely continue to watch and enjoy, but this has to be the draft I’ve very strongly disagreed on a good number of your picks. The biggest being taking Zhur-Taa Druid and then almost just ignoring War Chant and rare drafting Steam Vents over Selesnya Guildgate. Just seems loose to me.

  16. Nice draft, nice deck!

M2G2 there was a turn where the opponent was tapped out, on 12 life, and allowed your 6/6 to attack unblocked – and you had boros charm up. You could have given your guy double strike for a lethal attack of 12.

M2G3, there was the turn where he attacked with the runewing and the currently 2/2 fathom mage, and you played eyes in the sky – and then blocked with the two birds on fathom mage, only to later be blown out by the 4/2 flash.
In general, when playing around pump spells and such to remove key attackers, it can be for the best to just block with multiple creatures (moreover so when you have boros charm up) – I believe the correct block would have been to pile both birds token AND the denizen on the fathom mage, meaning opponent would have had to find a pump spell that’s better than a +2/+2 just to have the fathom mage survive, and even in such a case you’ll just trade his pump spell for your boros charm, which is favourable given the advantage you can get by getting rid of fathom mage.

  17. I’m really glad that you left MTGcast . . . now, I don’t need to keep going to that shitty site.

    Keep up the good work.

  18. I think that Marshall drafted it well. Axebane Guardian would be basicaly a third cluestone and I would rare draft Steam Vents over guildgate all day (plus it allowed fusing Give/Take :)). The only mistake was that Grull War Chant but mainly due to signalling. That card would not be that good as a spash anyway.

  19. M2G2 watching the win sit board with the Boris charm made me cringe.

M2G3 when he attacks with the 2/2 Mage into your 2/2, he obviously has some trick. Given you know he has the 4/2 flash guy and he has 6 mama untapped, I think you have to triple block with the 2/2 and birds, especially since you didn’t see any pump spells. If he had giant growth running around, you prob shouldn’t block at all as no one is bluffing in that spot. Maybe you forgot about the 4/2 because he is so awful? I actually remembered it because it was so awful which was why I was yelling “noooooo” when you only double blocked.
