  1. Awesome draft!
It pained me to see you pass that late assault griffin in p1 though. cuz for signaling purposes youre essiently sayin, “boros and orhzov are open”.

Unrelated to this draft can the good fellows here at mtgoacademy make a play all button :D

  2. What Apricio said: “can the good fellows here at mtgoacademy make a play all button :)”

  3. Great draft, and good games.

I am rather doubtful about your very first pick though. As you mentioned several times in your podcast, Boros tends to be overdrafted so going into Orzhov is safer, plus I think in the void One Thousands Lashed is a slightly better card than spark troopers, because it’s less situational, more flexible, and often deals 4 + damage during a game meaning it can easily compete with Spark Troopers even as an aggressive card. Plus it even has “life gain” in that it shuts down a problamatic creatrue that might have attacked you for a bunch.

  4. Were you aware of the fact, that Angelic Edict can remove a One Thousand Lashes in the first match? Seems like that could be a reason to keep both of them in.

    Thanks for the videos.

  5. Hmm, I actually think you made a lot of mistakes. But it was a lot of fun nonetheless. :D

  6. Boarding out Angelic Edict against a deck with Two Thousand Lashes is not really good (Game one if you topdecked one you would have won the game) – heck, one could even argue to board in a Guildscorn Ward.
And in round 2 we see why Soul Ransom is worse than mind control – there are moments where the card advantages doesn’t matter.

  7. I was a little sad to see you pass Gift of Orzhova right after taking Alms Beast because I love putting Gift on an Alms Beast. I’ve done it a couple times and literally never given any opponent’s creatures lifelink. Plus, even if I did, Beast having lifelink itself makes me feel ok about it.

  8. hey marshall loved the draft… scared me a couple of times… nearly died when you were about to mug a mordis strider…. I’m sure this isn’t the place but have you ever done a “reading you opponents hand” topic on limited resources?? I Think I’m good at card evaluations and drafting the right cards but i still am not able to really think about what play’s to make/ what to play around and i know my “game” would be improved by an lr podcast on the matter.. i dunno… maybe you’ve had this suggested before, i just was so surprised when you got blown out by a tower defense, that i realized i never even bothered to think about what i’ve always considered a “useless” uncommon. perhaps not as useless as i perceived??

  9. In match 1 Guildscorn Ward might have actually been a card against a deck with at least two One Thousand Lashes. That would have been sweet to see!

  10. I’ve run into a couple of those borzhov all-removal decks. they are for real. guildscorn ward is indeed a plausible sideboard card against lashes, although not sure if it is actually good or just marginally useful.

  11. Watching these videos has improved my drafting skills so that I’ve actually won all six games in a draft and started picking up QP, something I never managed before watching. I’ve found the drafting portion and talking about the values of the cards very helpful and your talking about how you make decisions during games is useful to getting me to think more strategically. Thanks for the great work and keep it up!

  12. @apricio I’m not too worried about Assault Griffin as a signal, nor am I super worried about the signals I’m sending. I’m more concerned with the signals I am receiving :) Thanks for watching!

@systemic Not sure what goes into that, but they read the comments and will take the feedback to heart I’m sure.

@ownage77 Thanks for checking it out and for commenting something nice too. It’s nice to hear that sometimes :)

@carrot Yeah I think Lashes is a better card than Spark Trooper but Trooper is way cooler, and way more fun :)

@jackmade Yeah I am aware, but apparently felt it still wasn’t warranted. Maybe I should keep it in? Not sure.

@JustLikeFM Yeah I made tons of mistakes, but that happens sometimes (thankfully it’s rare to make that many for me these days)

@christian If he spends 4 mana and his turn to take out my 2-drop, I am fine with that. Would rather just have more threats/more efficient answers. It’s arguable for sure. Agreed about Soul Ransom. I think they finally fixed Mind Control!

@justin Yeah, it’s an ok combo. I don’t like it though. My reasoning is this: If Beast lives, it wins the game by itself eventually. It’s also the first thing they will kill if they have removal. Putting Gift on it just speeds up the clock a bit and makes the target on it’s back that much better to hit for our opponent.

@oliver We have done a show about that, but yeah I think I’m generally very strong at these reads (you can see it in my videos) but I literally have never seen anyone use Tower Defense in a game. Also, I’m not sure I would call it a blowout even in this spot. The card is very bad and playing around it is a mistake (until you have seen it from your opponent).

@sqe9999 Ha, you are right. I’m not sure I would bring it in, but that would have been the spot for it!

@brenden Same here, and I agree re: Ward. Just knocking off a Lashes sometimes doesn’t mean it’s an automatic SB option.

@david Thanks! That’s great to hear and I really appreciate you taking the time to come and comment that. It’s really easy to just comment when you see me make a mistake or whatever, it’s really nice to hear stuff like this though. Keep it up!
