  1. That was sick sir! Great deck and you played it well. :) Really love this format and I absolutely agree with the Release events online being terrible EV. However, the Release events are very nice. I paid for 10 tix so I could add them to the 14 I already had on MODO and did about 18 Sealeds about 6 drafts before the wave died. Good times.

  2. R2G2… you can activate ping and steal the heron since you nailed your 7th land drop… swing in for lethal.

    you were SOO locked in that intangiable virtue/lingering souls play. granted its great… BUT YOU HAVE OLIVIA!!! hehe

  3. Agree with Dazaford — Red was much more solid than Black and gives you a bunch more humans for collar (which is amazing if you have critical mass of humans). Reliable red mana for punishment also boosts that card in power substantially over just splashing for it.

  4. The match with Helvault was intense. Great deck. I think you made the right choice with the colours. White/blue splash black for Lingering Souls would also be cool. But Olivia is a huge bonus for playing black red.

  5. After playing the torturer once and finding it to be useless in my RB deck, I dismissed it as terrible. Way to prove me wrong. again… and again… and again.

  6. i certainly would have played blue white splash black for lingering souls. you forgot drogskol captain when you were looking at UW and that just makes the deck.

  7. Nice video, thanks, man! :-)

    One nitpick that bothers me since the set review though: Why do you keep calling Chosen of Markov a guy? Or dude?

    I mean, look at her. If that card doesn’t scream vampiric eroticism then I don’t know what does.

    Maybe that’s the kind of Melvinism one needs to be become as good a player as you, though. But then again what’s the fun when you don’t sit back and enjoy the flavour sometimes, especially when a set is specifically designed for this purpose.

    One the same note, Liliana of the Veil is not an “it” :-P

  8. Mightymosy83 — See, I’m sympathetic to calling Chosen of Markov a guy or a gal, the reason being that I imagine that Magic art, when it’s not abstract but portrays particular events or characters, depicts only one or several particular instances of that character or only a temporal and spatial ‘slice’ of the event. In other words, I bet that there are also men who are chosen by Markov, even though the art on the card only depicts a woman. So while the art depicts a woman chosen by Markov, the rules text refers to a category of human, the particular tokens of which may be men or women, or even transgender! And then you also run into cases like Ebon Praetor. The art on this card depicts several beings, but when I attack with the card, I don’t say, “I’m attacking with these folks,” or, “I’m attacking with this motley crew”; instead, I would say, “I’m attacking with this homie,” or, “I’m attacking with this avatar praetor.”

    (Just to be clear, I’m just joking in the above paragraph.)

  9. amazing sealed pool! very good play, and as always awesome commentary!

    Just one criticism:

    Please for the love of god, stop tapping your mana before playing your spell!!!!!!!!!!

    It’s one of the worst habits of online play, even beating out the F6ing.

    All it would take is a sneeze or cough to accidentally cast that victim of night when you meant to play unburial rights!! Then you could have found yourself in a spot where the only legal target for victim would have been your own DUDE!!!!! (just think of the horror marshall)

  10. Great videos sir! This new set seems like it’s a blast for limited.

    I just wanted to say congratulations on your new commentary position at the limited GPs and at Starcity Games opens. I was very happy for you when you made the announcement on the show. I’ve been listening to Limited Resources for a very long time and you definitely deserve this with how much knowledge and entertainment you have given myself as well as the rest of the magic community. Great job and congratulations!

  11. R1G1 – Olivia can take control of the torturer rather than ping it when he sacs his doomed traveler to it. It’s a vampire.

  12. @newplan

    But then he just sacs the torturer. Why pay 3BB to kill it when he only has to pay 1R?

  13. @no life – got there!

    @OMA – Wow great run man, I plan on doing something similar when it hits.. hopefully :)

    @Pemmin – You win the award for being the first of 20 people who will tell me this lol, congrats!

    @d_hermit – Ya I get narrowed in sometimes and get tunnelvision a bit :(

    @fairgr – I do love turning guys sideways, can’t lie.

    @MonKei – Ya my awareness of that ability apparently comes in waves throughout the video. :( I have no idea what a Marowak is but yes I’m pretty sure it is. (wat?) lol

    @fifthchild – Thanks man, bulldozing my opponent is a personal hobby of mine. If I could just do it more often… ;)

    @Dazaford – I would need to look back to see what that deck would look like. I remember thinking that UWb was my 2nd choice, but I had a pretty deep pool so I’m sure I had multiple options.

    @shdwcat – Ya I’ll look again. I mean I have had a few times where I have had mana to double activate Heretic’s Punishment, but I have found that if you get to untap with an activation up, it’s usually lights out for your opponent.

    @Deadman_ – Yes that was intense, that card is pretty mean if you can’t answer it. I really liked the deck too, but yes the color choices were very close and I think I could have gone different directions pretty safely. Turns out Olivia is a bit of a tiebreaker though :)

    @jason – lol ya I have actually ran him quite a bit and found a lot of interesting uses for him. He certainly isn’t amazing, but he does some very cool things.

    @fiffo – Apparently I did, but thankfully I have the LR faithful to remind me! ;)

    @rebeat – Yes.

    @goldsoundz – Ya I actually had it in my head but didn’t mention it apparently on the video for some reason. I was pretty tired but I think Olivia is a fine splash as well.

    @Mightymosy83 – Thanks for watching :) I haven’t really given it a lot of thought but I have 2 probable reasons for why I do that.

    1. I don’t really care much about the flavor or whatever on the cards. I’m a spike, and when I read cards I just want to know if they help me smash my opponent or not for the most part. (I do enjoy a lot of the artwork though for Magic).

    2. When one does videos, their attention is spread pretty thin. It’s harder than it looks to make reasonable plays and talk about them at the same time. So for me, it’s probably just easier to call all creatures “dudes” or “guys” instead of bothering with the details that don’t really matter as much.

    @AJ – lol good stuff

    @DrogskolCaptain – I still love you, I swearz.

    @quert – I’ll have to look back, as I don’t remember the spot you are referring to :(

    @nuckleheadninja – Thanks! Ya I am torn on that one. Originally I did that because it mocked what I do in real life, and I try to have MTGO be as close to that as possible. (For example I lay my cards out IRL the same as it does on MTGO). But lately in real life I have also started playing the spell then paying for it after sometimes. I might make an effort to switch over. One thing that you are wrong about however is the situation you said with Victim (or any targeted anything), which is that you have to select a target when you cast it, so even if you tap BB and click on Victim, it won’t go on the stack until you have chosen a target. That cuts a lot of the hairy situations out. Still, for untargeted spells or mainphase creatures/sorceries it matters. I’ll think about it, thanks for the feedback.

    @dragon7284 Agreed, this set looks like a solid addition to what has become my favorite draft set ever! Thanks a lot for the congrats too, I really appreciate it and am very excited to start doing video coverage :)

    @newplan – I’ll take a look, but I think I didn’t consider stealing it (probably because he would just sac it in response and pinging does the same thing for cheaper). I’ll look though, thanks.

    @chris – you’re.. welcome? haha

    @spike – You forgot one “win” there :P

  14. Quick question about your mtgo board. I’ve asked this on other sites with no answer.

    What do I have to do to get the Turn Steps in the middle and player boxes/graveyard moved around?

    Is this a mod? I’ve looked in the display settings and don’t see it.

    Love these videos and the site was instrumental in convincing me to start playing MtGO.

  15. It’s odd that so many people love the flavor of Innistrad. It was a good set before DKA came out, but flavorwise the set is oddly like Homelands, a.k.a. the worst set ever by many accounts. I was just looking over the Homelands spoiler and the flavor, especially in white and black, is eerily similar. A long missing Angel diety, humans v. gothic mosters, townsfolk politics and even a werewolf all come into play.

  16. In reply to Shane’s question, I believe what you are looking for can be adjusted in the Setting menu on MTGO.

    Just go to Menu>Settings>Game Play. On the bottom right you will see a category box for Graphic Preferences. In the box there is an option for Game Table Design. I believe you want the “Compact” option in the dropdown rather than the default which is the “Big Card” setting.

    I hope this is what you were looking for and hope it helps! :)

    Cheers!
