  1. You can pause the draft at around 12:14ish and see the P3P1pick. Any clue what card you might have taken?

  2. I love how salty your round 1 opponent got.

Overall solid draft, though I wish you hadn’t taken Gary so early. He’s probably the “correct” pick, but I’m getting a bit tired of you and others drafting heavy-black. I’d have been more interested to see you pilot, say, a white/blue heroes deck.

  3. I think you should have mulled that last hand: 5 lands against an aggro deck with no plays till turn 5 and no second swamp for your only creature seems a little risky to me.

  4. The only thing I can make out at 12:14 is an ephara’s warden (the one that it ended up auto-picking) and a the untap land satyr. No other art loaded – a lot of power/toughness were showing up, but I couldn’t make them out enough.

Round 1 – what a sore loser. I never know how to respond to the “luck” complaints. No response is probably the best. Do you ever consider reporting for the language, Marshall? Does reporting help make a better online Magic experience for all of us?

Great content as always! Hope the Beta gets betters – I find it unplayable right now as well!

  5. Good Solid Draft, only one small thing, R2G3 When you made the Savage Surge & Time to Feed Play on the Kraken, you should have surged after blockers had been declared instead of in Main Phase 2, missed a couple of points of damage there

  6. Good games, and you are right about rd 3 – the r and r/w aggro decks do take advantage of slow draws.

  7. M1G1 playing Disciple to get his land (he pretty clearly had next to nothing) and then attacking with the nemesis was pretty horrible. You traded a 5/5 and a trick for two 3/3′s, when you had the mana to monstrous the Nemesis and just make him chump it. I suppose Divine Verdict punishes that move, but it still seems well worth it.

  8. I was surprised you took the hit from the Mistcutter Hydra in R1G1. You don’t want to be at 9 life with Agent of Horizons on the table and no removal in hand. You even chump-blocked the Agent on the very next turn, saving 3 life as opposed to the Mistcutter’s 7.

I guess you had it in your head that you were about to kill the Mistcutter with Sip of Hemlock, so you didn’t want to lose a creature to it, but that’s not good strategy. You put yourself in a position where you had to be lucky to win, and you didn’t have to.

  9. @frizzel – that guy was certainly being childish and a sore loser, but I don’t think “hell” is worthy of reporting for language. Maybe that’s just me. I think his general demeanor was more offensive than the presence of that word.

  10. How do you stop these white red fast decks with cerebus? Without pharikas cure or lash to the whip you are screwed

  11. Just a quick question:
Doesn’t the draft recorder work in the new client? I don’t know cause I don’t use the new client. But if the draft recorder works, you can take a look at P3P1…

  12. Seems like almost every game you were praying for a Swamp to show up…
Maybe your land balance was a little off?
With so many double Black drops, starting as early as turn three, switching a couple of Forests into Swamps might have worked better.
All in all, great draft and great content!
    Keep up the good work!!

  13. Thanks for the content as always Marshall.

I agree with another poster that the keep in the last game was pretty bad. Did seeing the “all-powerful” Gray Merchant cloud your judgment? Not only was it slow and a 5-lander, but you didn’t even have two swamps which meant that you had to draw yet another land to play 6 of the cards in your deck including the one in your hand.

I also think that trading creatures off in M3G1 was a mistake when you had an enchantment and combat trick in hand. You need something left on which to play those. :)

  14. Making a video of your games, you sort of have proof that you aren’t lucky (not that you really need it, but it can feel like it). I’ve never reported, but I think in fact people should.

  15. Did you cut the Erebos emissary on accident during deck building? I’m thinking yes because you would have mentioned your reasoning behind that one.

  16. As someone who’s recently seen RW do some major damage lately (both for and against me), even winning on turn 4 against a decent draw, that keep in the last game made me wince something fierce! You’re usually much more analytical about your play, so I’ll chalk that up to Commentator’s Mental Fatigue.

  17. So as the name implies I’m a noob but first pack you were getting all kinds of white and I don’t know why you didn’t take any? Divine Verdict all day.

  18. Hi Marshal
Great draft but i sure wish you would get off the beta train. The new client is absolute garbage i almost stopped watching after the crash in draft. I wish guys like you who have a voice that reaches out to the devs would stop sugar coating things and really tell it like it is. One thing i cant stand is that they have yet to give the client a “game” feel it still looks like a ugly work document that is in its roughest form. Look at what the devs from blizzard did on their first attempt at hearthstone the entire feel of their client is so polished and well put together. I mean i understand that it is blizzard and they have very deep pocket books but i don’t think WOTC is going through tough times. When i first started playing MTGO i was completely amazed at how crappy the client looked and played everything from trying to join casual matches to the spreadsheet-esque layout of the whole platform it really didn’t feel like a game to me. Then when i heard they where coming out with a new client i was super pumped thinking “alright they are actually going to make this feel more like a game”, i cant explain the disappointment that i felt the first time i loaded up the beta and seen that somehow they successfully managed to make a new client that looks and feels worse then the junk they already had.

Anyway love your content, keep up the good work
