  1. “Stopped watching P1P1. Syndic is the correct pick.”

Well then you missed a pretty sweet set of videos. The 5c deck was great to see in action.

  2. Great to know you devote so much effort to being the first one to comment just so you can troll Marshall’s videos.

  3. It’s good to know that you, knowing the perfect pro strategy, no longer need to watch videos. We really won’t miss you.

Sweet deck Marshall. I can never wrap my head around 5 color monstrosities so I’m always bewildered by how you make them work so well.

  4. @Porlo Veeto Damer Del Roesa:

But if you instantly stop watching everyone who doesn’t agree with you, you never will know different tactics/plays/stuff that maybe, just maybe, could be better or widen your horizon in an everchanging and evolving game. Not getting to that point is pretty sad, but hey, it’s your choice.

What is pretty annoying though is to comment on it. No one gets value from it. Marshall said why he didn’t pick syndic even though he accepted it as a great card. So he had his reasons. Clearly you disagree but your statement comes with a finality that both negates discussion (or even an acknowledgement for maybe being wrong on your side) and serves as a very negative statement towards the whole series and the person behind it, which is rude.

@videos: I wasn’t happy with some of your picks in the beginning but you made it work for you. Biggest fun was finally having someone see Undercity Plague do some work :) Most people who pick it then side it out and never look at it again, which may be the smarter option, but way less funny. Thank you for that!

  5. Marshall: “I think I’m going to force 5-Color…”

Troll: “Stopped watching P1P1. Syndic is the correct pick.”

Lol, some people are so self absorbed they don’t even listen to these videos.

Troll: “Yes but are inferior draft because of it. Not pro.”

Well, I guess Conley Woods and Luis Scot-Vargas are also not Pro and are inferior drafters, since they regularly force draft archetypes for fun.

  6. Nice 5c control draft marshall.
When you state before your first pick that you are trying to draft 5c control I can agree with the prism in the first pack because it mostly likely wont wheel out of a bad pack like that. I think you should have taken the specter p1p3 though. In 5c control you are set up to play anything the specter steals and the lands can help to smooth out mana issues.
To Porlo, 5c control is an archetype in this format because of the print runs. The archetype allows the drafter to steal the good cards from other drafters, helping your deck and hurting your possible opponents decks. The first 4 packs that Marshall seen in this draft would have forced everyone into orzo or demir which would make everyone to basically compete for the same deck and end up with decks with weaker cards.
Thanks again for another interesting draft Marshall.

  7. I agree with that, and the fact that you pass two verdant havens was also not conform the idea. And that your oponent doesn’t know lands are permanents, well so much for any form of resistance… I also had that happen to me, people saccing creatures instead of lands, but never in an 8-4.

  8. i would never dare to run such a wide variety of colors, i tried a couple of times but always ended up mana screwed even if i got some gates/mana sources.

fun to watch when it works out, maybe i´ll think about picking up urban revolution more often from now on thanks to this :)

  9. Great videos! I love seeing the luck factor for these pro players. Unfortunately my luck runs 1 and done most of the time. Even Marshall runs unlucky but is able to battle back and continue to make the mostly correct plays and attacks every step of the way allowing him to come back many of times when others (like me) would have given up mentally or even literally (tap tap concede) long ago.

But then it’s humorous to see Marshall’s perfectionism rear its head in that even though his play was as good as it good be given the cards he had his last game, the other guy’s deck was just more powerful in the long run – again, the luck factor – Marshall played against two slow decks that allowed his deck to take over, and then Marshall played against an even slower deck that was able to take over his slow deck. While obvious the fast Simic and Boros guys were out 1st and 2nd on the other side of the draft.

    Interesting games!

  10. People can complain about the first pick, it was bizarre, suboptimal and while it did lead to a more “interesting” draft, it was not the right pick in any world. In a bad pack, prism still wheels regularly. I honestly have more of a problem with picks later on. If you are going for the weirdo five color nonsense, Nightveil Spectre seems more fun and even more castable than Grisly Spectacle (removal is great, having the deck that can cast every card your opponent exiles is bettah). Otherwise, pack three, why take the Ghast? Yes, you are playing some black cards, but five colors and several guild gates almost guarantees that you have five or less swamps. In the end, you played four swamps and a 2/2 extort for four. At that point, a Syndicate Enforcer would just be better (never a good thing). Overall a weird experience.

  11. You guys only stopped watching after P1P1. I stopped watching every five minutes cuz I was laughing so hard! Smoggy! Hahahahaha. This draft was awesome! I always want to do this but don’t really have the BR to. I think we should all be thrilled that Marshall is willing to take risks for us.

Thanks for the totally sweet vid. I will accept it, even if it’s just “Marshall” and not “Pro.” Maybe “Marshall” is better than “Pro.”

  12. I have “limited” time, get it? to watch vids so I will troll the comments all day lol what a tool that first poster is

  13. Just saying that this was actually pretty pro. Drafting a succesful 5c deck is superhard. Love these kinds of drafts because you really have nothing to loose and so much fun to gain when you try something like this. :D

  14. Its funny that they SHOULD have and COULD have printed Undercity Plague as ‘sacs a nonland permanent’ and it wouldn’t have been OP, just good.

    Stupid WOTC.

  15. As I don’t want to take part in the conversation about trollinh, lets discuss some picks that I think are highly debatable. I’m not going to talk about those ones that were close, but only about those ones that I think were not optimal.

Pick 22: Scorchwalker over Undercity plague. Reasons: Too heavy mana commitment with the plague and only 2 evasive creatures to put it on at that point, one being a Smog Elemental. However, I don’t know if hardcasting a scorchwalker in a 5color- deck is a good idea.

Pick 23: Leyline Phantom over CS- Denizen any day. Especially since only 1 other white creature had been drafted at that point. Phantom is actually playable but a 5-color deck MUST do better than use gray ogres.

Pick 25: Totally lost over Frenzied tilling. As a sideboard- card, Totally lost should be fine. It’s clearly the more useful and versatile card.

Pick 30: I don’t understand picking Crypt Ghast in a 5- color deck. It’S too slow and only enables Swamps to produce more mana. How many Swamps will likely show up in a normal 5 color game / draw? Probably around 2? I think there are a few clearly better and more safe picks here as a 2/2 for 4 Mana is way too slow if Verdant H. and Prophetic Prisms might be casted on turn 2 and 3.

I appreciate any discussion about those picks. Am I wrong here?

  16. There is pro or there are no pro. No try.

Stop wasting my time, theirs more important thing’s I could be doing!

  17. Those types of posts are just there to create attention. Best just to ignore them. I even doubt they actually stopped watching at P1P1, but the ridiculousness of it creates the attention they crave.

That draft was great. It shows how great play skill and deck building can take what normally would be a pile into something pretty good.

  18. While I love the 5-color decks and I also end up playing them when the packs are not too good (even if you lose in the second round in 4-3-2-2, it is SO much fun to play :D), I agree with the above posting. Some of the picks should have been a bit better.

Also, I love Marshall’s videos, especially since he is so much fun to listen to, but I am a bit suprised that with so much limited experience, he is still making these tiny mistakes with evolve sequence, with mana usage, etc. I think that is acceptable at 4-3-2-2 level, but on 8-4 I believe these can cost you in the long run.

  19. Loved the draft, thanks for sharing! Weird Odd-ball drafts are so much more fun to watch than the straight-forward “I will draft the most aggressive deck possible” videos. — Sure maybe you win more with the more aggressive drafting, but if the goal is to entertain, the odd-ball drafts are so much more enjoyable to watch! (especially when they win!)

  20. “There is pro or there are no pro. No try.

Stop wasting my time, theirs more important thing’s I could be doing!”

How about devoting some of that time to learning proper grammar? :)

  21. I’m sad to see that you lost, but I love seeing RUG decks perform well. I play RUG, almost at every opportunity in gatecrash limited, just because when you ave access to cards like crocanura, ruination worm, and some of the bomb threats you saw, its difficult to be outmatched. In fact, at the prerelease, I won each game I resolved prime speaker zegana in, simply because it was never for fewer than 6 cards. She even let me stabilize at 1 life in one game before I took over with ghor-clan rampager.

About your deck: I do like the five color build, but you were playing the very slow deck that a lot of people do. Playing a slow deck means you have to prioritize cards differently. Extort obviously and removal as well are important, but you should take more bomby cards. I agree that you didn’t really have access to them, but considering your plan consisted mainly of beating down with “Smoggie,” there could have been better things done. Overall, a nice draft, 5 color is hard but it was hilariously fun to watch you draft and play, as usual. Keep it up!

  22. “Big daddy Smoggums……” Laughed my ass off at this. Love the vids. Keep em coming!
