  1. At the end of match one, wouldn’t the correct sequence have been to +2 Jace first before Mind Twist-ing? Gives you a loyalty buffer and you can just take that extra card off him anyway.

  2. You could have totally miscalced the thrun in match 3, not that it mattered.

This series of videos should be titled “how to win by drawing 20 more cards than your opponent or why having t1 library is one of the most broken things you can do.”

  3. Anonymous, please tell us more about miscalcing the card with “can’t be countered” on it. Your ideas intrigue me, and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

  4. Do not play cube. It should be boycotted due to its awful prices. It seems like you never learn.

  5. I feel like it was unjustifiable to be taking Green cards over decent UB playables just because of that Rofellos. Taking Noble Hierarch over Looter was totally absurd.. Further, with such bonkers spells you really should have taken lands more highly. You passed multiples fetches, Underground Sea, Dimir Signet and Dimir Aqueduct. The latter especially would have been perfect in your deck as an additional source of advantage. The extra land it gives you for free (ish) goes a long way to making Mind Twists better.

  6. “Actually Goyf is pretty bad for us here. Nah, I’m just gonna steal it.” Troll-face Marshall.

  7. When you were in the last pack drafting you took Shapeshifter, commenting that “Trinket Mage can’t get anything”.

Don’t forget that your Mox Pearl & Everflowing Chalice are both legal targets for Trinket Mage.

    :)

  8. I like the Snapcaster Pick. Mostly because I like the idea of Snapcastering Ancestral Recall for ALL THE CARDS.

  9. Really fun draft and awesome deck. I can’t understand taking Rofellos over the Abyss when you are already have cryptic and a good blue black deck. I understand that you didn’t know it at the time but your deck would have been unreal if you had the Abyss as it can’t hit inkwell, sphinx, or worm coil.

  10. R2 G2, why didn’t we reanimate TNN out of our opponent’s yard towards the end of the match, when we had counter support in hand?

  11. Marshall has like the least possible self control when it comes to drawing cards. Down to 6 in the library? Nah it’s cool, draw off library, FoF off Jace, it’s all good. I know it didn’t make any difference in the end but still… It makes me wince to see him just have no fear that way. Like four times if he just gets fogged or something he just decks himself. Wasn’t even looking for answers. Just CARDS!

You are a braver man than I.

  12. Match 3 Game 1 – opponent plays Thrun and Karakas for mana. He could tap green-white dual instead and leave Karakas untapped to bounce Thrun – that’s where he lost that game.

  13. Hey Marshall-I think this deck should be called Blue Screen of Death. At least that’s what my computer experienced halfway through M2G2.

  14. Oh man, this draft was just brutal to watch. In the “marshall, why would you inflict this deck on anyone???” sort of way. ;)

  15. Oh no. No. Cmon Marshall, a Cube video? You’re better than that. Cube is the most terrible. Not “most terrible format”, just “most terrible”.
A 3 hour video of you and Brian feeding Kittens into a blender would be better than a Cube video.

  16. I liked the cube video, don’t listen to Ricky here. Great deck, learned a ton about prioritizing picks in cube (like how when goyf was in there, you didn’t even bother with him).

Had also never seen library in action before. That thing is absolutely unreal. Still not sure I like baby jace as much as you, but to each their own.

    Keep up the good work!

  17. Marshall has said it before – Cube is just for fun! That’s why he plays them as Swiss, and with holiday powered cube, why not – anyone can turn 3 a Blightsteel Colossus or such! Powered Cube is for the fun not the value!

  18. This was one of the most enjoyable draft videos I have ever seen you do, and that is saying something!
    Thanks, Marshie! :D

  19. I didn’t watch the finals yet, but man, that deck is straight up soul crushing sweetness. Ancestral recall, snapcaster ancestral, then mind twist you for 5 is just evil. And library of Alexandria is just insane, perhaps it should take timetwisters spot in what’s considered the power 9 (maybe).

  20. I’m sad that you didn’t pick up Time Walk and Fact or Fiction, would have made this deck even more insane.

But other than that, great video.

  21. Also: Match 1 Game 2 you could have just + Jace and THEN still Mind Twist him or 5, that way you could have kept your Jace on a high loyalty count for more -1 activations and still gotten rid of your opponent’s entire hand.

  22. Such a great deck. I think you could have taken stuff like Buried Alive in pack two in case you got the Reanimate like you did, but you had plenty of value and card draw anyway. Grim Monolith was also a strong pick, with the Wurmcoil in the next pack for rubins.

    Amazing video and well played!

  23. At the end there where you fact or fiction for swamp+island+cryptic command, he gives you Lands or cryptic as you’d expect. What do you think of the play of giving you all three or nothing? You have a million lands already and only 8 cards in library, and he has a healthy life total. How much do the extra two mana really help compared to the two draw steps?

  24. Absolutely insane deck Marshall! You’ve come a LONG way since your first cube draft that I watched all that time ago :) *sniff sniff* makes me so proud!

  25. I think Time Walk was just better than Mox Pearl in this particular deck.

Early game, it has roughly the same effect: it ramps you a mana. And in this case, Time Walk is going to ramp you on-color, unlike Mox.

Late game, though, it has synergy with all three of your Planeswalkers and can always be flashed back with Snapcaster Mage.

  26. Insane deck Marshall, disagree with some of the picks but none of the important ones :) To all those hating on cube, if you go 2-1 in a swiss you get your entry fee back, I haven’t spent a penny to draft cube this holidays and I got 3 rounds every time, I repeat not one penny if that is not the definition of good value I don’t know what is. The only downside is you don’t get packs for the throwback format if you win however I am fine with that, I would rather cube anyway!
