1. I think the minor synergies of Village Cannibals, Sharpened Pitchfork and Silver-Inlaid Dagger give Mausoleum Guard an edge over Midnight Haunting for your deck.

    Pretty close though.

  2. seriously staying back with the bat, and then considering not killing the crows right away is just mind blowing.

then you realize the cathar has an ability 10 mins later.

    why are you in 8-4′s?

  3. Durdle, this dude, along with a large group of us in LR can draft circles around bro. I wouldn’t question him much.

But Marshall, when do the c(p)ubes come out of beta testing?

  4. @chris Ya they don’t mess around here on MTGOA. Prompt output of content! ;)

@afraidman Not sure what you are referring to, but ya I’m no comedian so don’t put too much stock into anything I am joking about on the videos.

@Tokamak Agreed, super close. I have a lot of respect for Midnight Haunting, and I think that Guard is just a rock solid value card. Tough choice for sure.

@durdeburdle I’m not sure which match or game you mean off the top of my head but I am going to assume you are just trolling based on your last comment. :) Thankfully for me, I meet the height requirement to get into 8-4 drafts on MTGO.

@TERROl2 Thanks for the clan backup, and there is another beta apparently going on this weekend. After that I am thinking they will have most of the kinks worked out and we should be good to go! Going to be funnn. Thanks for the support as always, I do appreciate it. (and keep trying, you barely missed last week ;)

  5. Did you realize in the last game that he can only tap non-humans? It seems you missed a chance to get in an additional 7 damage attacking with the snake one turn. It didn’t seem to affect the possible outcome, but it could have in a big way.

  6. These videos are great, you’ve got a knack for mentioning every decision point that comes up without automatically doing it. It helps me not slip into autopilot when I draft myself.

In the third round, I definitely thought you should hold on to the Fiend Hunter rather than use it for wasting opponent’s mana investment, because it was the only answer you had against the opponent’s Fiend Hunter (as well as one of the few removal spells in your deck.)

  7. I agree with JC. You had the Slayer to hold of the Fiend Hunter. There were 2 turn you missed out by not attacking with the Snake. Also, moving the Dagger to the Lantern Spirit rather than the Vampire before combat was poor. He wasn’t going to tap the Vampire since it couldn’t block, so you were missing out on extra with damage there too. I don’t know if you could have won that game with your draws, but you certainly didn’t give yourself much of an opportunity to steal it.

I love the videos, so thanks for the content!

  8. Fun draft, haven’t seen white/black yet. I was hoping you’d end up with a hauberk/traveller/moan of the unhallowed deck but this was still very interesting.

This draft video really solidified something for me I have been thinking for a long time – you are *MUCH* better as a solo presenter. I don’t know if you notice, but you often completely steamroller your co-host on picks or plays that matter (you do defer to them on stuff that doesn’t). The extra discussion might be there as well, but you often just snap pick something they are opposed to. Now whilst that is your right as the pilot who spent the tickets, it makes for lower quality of content.

So just to clarify – your videos are great, but definitely superior at the moment when its just you at the helm.
Durdle, this dude, along with a large group of us in LR can draft circles around bro. I wouldn’t question him much.
Yeahhhhh, sure that guy was a troll but posts like this do nothing to help.

Random last question – Marshall do you (or your circle of friends) watch Conley Woods videos? “Bad news bears” is something I don’t hear on anyone elses videos :).

  9. @JC Hm not sure which part you are referring to, I’ll have to go back and look. Sounds like I missed something though.. :(

@chah I will have to look back. I can’t remember if holding the Hunter made more sense or if I was a bit hasty with it. It’s happened before that’s for sure ;)

@roam-d Thanks for the comments, I’ll go back and look at that part. What you said about equipping makes sense, even if I can’t remember the part in the game exactly..

@JFA Thanks for the feedback. I have heard people say the opposite and others that agree with you as well about the videos being better when just me or with a partner. I feel like they add different elements so I’ll probably continue to keep mixing it up. I am aware that I have to make the decision and this is just a side effect of being the one piloting the computer when the clock is ticking down. I have deferred picks to my partners many times though I will say.

I have been saying that for a long time, and I personally blame Conley for stealing it :P

  10. I’m going to chime in and say that while you do tend to steamroll your co-hosts, that’s exactly what I like to hear/see. Someone has to keep their greedy six mana do nothing enchantments in line!

In all seriousness though, I generally enjoy having the second person’s input as it helps differentiate these videos from the usual draft videos on the web by providing banter and disagreement.

  11. Marshall – a little uncertain why R2M1 at 7:28 you didn’t consider attacking with all 3, casting the voiceless spirit and then on his turn foxing his creepy doll. (It exiles! So you can do that).

Then next turn tapping both plains instead of leaving one open? Can’t fox anymore :’(.

  12. Great video overall. Not much I disagreed with in the drafting. I couldn’t help yelling at my monitor when you weren’t equipping the vamp with the dagger in the last game, but with the way you were drawing it wouldn’t have helped your cause anyway, so the point’s moot.

@Zach: The fox only hits enchantments.

  13. @Mannequin – just realized that…. :(. I think he should have left open a plains regardless. Rep moment of heroism, etc.

  14. Is it me or does your opponent (and yourself I think!) miss an onboard kill in the last game, at 31:30? If he just uses the Priest to tap the Snake and then attack with everyone he wins – you’re on 6, you can’t do anything about the 5 from Orchard Spirit, leaving just the Slayer to block Fiend Hunter and the Wolf, so 1 damage has to get through, he wouldn’t even die on the backswingand you are even tapped out!!

This means that you were RIGHT to not attack with the Interloper on the previous turn, despite beating yourself up about it a little. As you are dead on board either way (since he can’t block, as you correctly point out), your only shot is to hope your opponent *forgets* that Interloper can’t block and holds something back, fearing a backswing.

The fact that you didn’t mention this, your opponent missed it and that noobe has mentioned it in the comments makes me think I missed something but I keep looking at it and I can’t see what.

  15. In fact, he doesn’t even need to use the Priest to tap anything – he could attack with it too, same result.

  16. The game durdleburdle is referring to is M1G1. He is being unnecessarily douchey about it, but the fact that you made a suboptimal play due to missing an onboard trick and then came very close to making an even worse version of the same mistake seems kind of bad! You also seemed to (judging from your lack of hesitation or discussion of this point) miss the possibility of him activating and flipping his looter (even though he had zero cards in his hand) in order to block and kill your Geist-Honored Monk the turn before your alpha attack.

I think that game might be interesting to go back and review, as there seemed to be a couple of opportunities to eke out a few more win percentage points in the game, and judging from your comments after the GP/PTQ this is what you’re trying to focus on (although some of the misses might have just been from the distraction of commentating).
