  1. Not sure if it’s just me, but the audio and video seem to be out of sync for the draft and deckbuilding (haven’t watched the games yet so I’m not sure if it’s the same for those.)

  2. I love your videos, but would it be possible to edit out the empty space between picks during drafting? Channel Fireball does this and they get through draft in 15 minutes that way.

  3. I was excited to see the mill deck. I understand that your deck was pretty good without it but I thought you were going to force it and then you passed the 2 curses. So I have a few questions about forcing the deck.

Do you need to be in it after pack 1?
If you aren’t in it after pack one is it worth to go into it later?
I know the picks for the UR mill deck and I know most of the U cards needed for the deck but what are the B cards in a UB mill deck?

As always I love your draft videos and podcast. Keep up the great work.

  4. That was a great draft. I too noticed the vid was a little ahead of the vid during the draft but was fine during game play. Murder of Crows is not only one of the best cards in Innistrad but also one of the coolest names for a card in a long time. :)

  5. The first vid was a couple seconds out of sync for me too but it didn’t really affect the viewing.

    Tom re: Mill-
Black gives you Bitterheart Witch, Drownyard, Typhoid Rats and a solid control/removal package. I think going grixis is viable for a mill deck, blue as the base and splashing for removal, which also leaves you open to mixing in some Burning Vengeance synergy or looking for either deck.

My favorite mill combo is actually U/W. U/W lets you use Feeling of Dread as a sort of double fog that you can mill with Ghoulcaller’s Bell. Also, White gives you access to a lot of great removal: Bonds of Faith, Smite the Monstrous, Rebuke, Avacynian Priest, SB Urgent Exorcism, and the late pick U/W mill MVP Ghostly Possession. Purify the Grave is also a good SB option.

I wouldn’t recommend forcing mill from P1P1, but if you can spend your early picks on removal you can have that option open to you when you see a 6+ pick Curse in pack 1. Creatures are pretty bad in mill, a card like Murder of Crows is generally just a good blocker and not as valuable as something like Ghostly Possession in slowing down the opponent. That’s why leading with a lot of removal is optimal since it is great in normal decks and mill decks.

However if I get an Undead Alchemist early on I consider it an obligation to force mill.

  6. try hitting pause on the record when you’re just killing time waiting for the next pack to come.

  7. The draft video was out of sync by three or four seconds. It just seems like Marshall is talking a while after he actually makes his decisions. Other than that, great video. Thanks!

  8. Sensory Deprivation over Spider Spawning? I mean really? U/Gb is a VERY strong archetype if it comes together right and Deprivation is a card that you’ll never want to play too many of and can get it almost around 8th to 10th pick.
Spider Spawning just has so much upside and even if you dont get to draft the U/Gb selfmill deck, it’s worth taking here imo.

  9. If this is trying to force mill, why do you throw away a Dream Twist for a crappy pitchfork, without even discussing it? Dream Twist in a mill deck is sort of like Lava Axe in an aggro deck that needs some reach. Whereas if you’re leaning towards UB, pitchfork is… 3 for first strike and a card slot.

  10. Great draft marshall. Love your stuff and the podcast. I was proud of you for even playing back from the brink, let alone drafting mill. Baby steps.

  11. You are the *worst* at forcing. Incapable of chasing after high variance strategies even when that is your stated goal! :D

To be fair, you didn’t get much help from your packs, but if you don’t get there Marin shouldn’t tease us!

  12. I felt like your picks were all over the place. Pitchfork over Dreamtwist, Vampire Interloper over Amulet in a defensive control deck that may be splashing something. Patrician over Deranged Assistant when you need your 5- and 6-drops to win with things in your yard?

From your analysis, I feel like you are valuing cards in the abstract and not for your deck. In an archetype-dependent format like INN, pure card value only goes so far.

  13. This draft looked like you could have pulled off a great Spider spawning deck. I was a little disappointed at that.
