  1. Depends on the mana, but inferno fist and triplicate spirits look like very good commons. With enough common enablers, the convoke deck could be very decent. Still, this is core set in this era, not too much exciting beyond the Souls being named after planes.

  2. That Garruk is so fake – it doesn’t even have a mana cost, and the wording for the ultimate says “Destroy all creatures Garruk the Slayer doesn’t control.” Since when do planeswalkers control creatures?

Burning Anger has a typo – should be “its”, not “it’s.”

Darksteel Citadel is on here twice.

And what’s with all the blurry placeholder art?

  3. @boop doge

Garruk is a “fight the horde” type of card. One player starts as Garruk and other players attack him. Multiplayer prerelease thing.

The blurry placeholder arts are from cards that were discovered in a DOTP data file.

  4. Ajani, the Steadfast

+1 Up to one target creature gets +1/+1 first strike and vigilance until end of turn

-2 Put a +1/+1 counter on all creatures you control, and put one loyalty counter on each other planeswalker you control

-7 You get an emblem with, if damage would be dealt to a planeswalker you control, you may reduce that damage to one

  5. Nissa is going to be an amazing bomb in this format, you get a 4/4 trampler every turn and you don’t even lose the ability to tap it for mana if you need to.

Not quite so sure I’m as sold on Ajani, at least not for limited play, both the first two abilities are OK, but not very good for protecting him and the last ability is basically worthless in most games unless you have some kind of some kind of Planeswalker deck.

  6. I would think making your creatures bigger is a pretty good protective strategy.

  7. @Clypheous No +1/+1 and lifelink, vigilance and first strike not that relevant in limited ;) I would say most of the time a huge difference! In a damage-race lifelink wins.
The second ability is not that bad in a white wheenie deck!
In Limited almost every Plainswalker is an autoplay! Because there are very few cards that deal with a Plainswalker in a short time. Constructed there is Heroes Downfall, “O-Ring”…
Overall a Core Set with very powerful cards! Don’t know if that is good, because the next normal sets will add another powerlevel ;)

  8. A few random observations: Will Forged Golem and Inferno Fist look bonkers in pauper. Chief Engineer is begging to be busted right in half. Ancient Silverback could very well see some high end play in Standard. New Nissa tickles my jigglies…so does New Garruk. Venom and Leeching sliver seem nice….but oh man, Diffusion Sliver….*drool*…”Welcome to modern, you nutty bastard, we got a pack of buddies who’ve been waiting for you.” Seriously, I believe Diffusion Sliver is one of the most impactful cards in the set. It’s Crystalline Sliver for Modern. I’m an all out Aggro Red kinda guy, so I love Stoke The Flames. Loving M15…best core set evet imo.
