MTGO Academy Announcement: Content Cessation

Dear MTGO Academy fans and others,

I am writing this short note to inform all of you that, as of the end of January 2017, MTGO Academy will discontinue hosting regular article and video content pertaining to Magic: the Gathering or Magic: the Gathering Online. Our bots in Magic Online and our webstore will remain open for business.

The reason for this is simply that, as of this time, MTGO Academy is no longer capable of allocating budgetary resources to fund the production, scheduling, editing, and publication of content that is of high enough quality to present to the Magic community. The content that has already been posted will remain available on our website and on our Youtube channel for those interested to review it.

Though we at MTGO Academy can imagine circumstances in which we could host Magic content again — and we would certainly love to do so — we have no plans as of now to reconstitute content production.

As the editor of MTGO academy since 2011, allow me, PlanetWalls, to speak for both myself and the rest of our team in expressing our gratitude both toward our many fans over the years, and toward our exceptional contributors. We have found ourselves extremely lucky to have worked with content producers and pillars of the Magic community — even if for a short time in some cases — including BlippyTheSlug, Travis Chance, Ryan Cribbs, enderfall, Simon Goertzen, Michael Hetrick, JustSin, Limited Resources, LoadingReadyRun, Jason Moore, Nate Price, Kelly Reid, Steve Sadin, TwoJesses, Windmill Slam, xMiMx, and many other talented individuals. We hope that providing a spotlight, even if only a small one at times, to these voices has been a positive — sometimes educational, sometimes enjoyable, hopefully both — experience for you.

With much sincerity,

A.J. (PlanetWalls)

  1. Very sorry to hear this! While I haven’t had a chance to watch your content in a while, there was a period a couple years ago when I was able to regularly read/watch almost all of it and I really enjoyed the content providers here. Hope they’re able to continue in another place. Thanks for the years of content, MTGO Academy!

  2. Will miss you guys. You guys got me into MTGO and had lots of content I remember fondly. Wish you and your team all the best.

  3. Very sorry to hear of this, and I wish everyone there the best. You’ve always had good content, and I look forward to the day if/when you decide to resume. It was an honor writing for you, and having your sponsorship for my events.

  4. Stopped playing MTG this year (switched to Hearthstone), but when I was playing I would watch your content all the time. Lots of memories of great videos. Best produced out of all the other content sites, IMO

Thanks so much for the hours and hours of entertainment.

  5. I have Loved this site since I found it thanks to LoadingReadyRun. Thanks so much for helping me understand draft and just lots of fun Great vids.
I wish you all the best :-)
