  1. I for one was very upset about this announcement. In one night all of my cards I spent time getting 4x of went from having value to having almost no value to me at all. Luckily I was able to jump on the wagon before everything was sold out and was able to pick up missing cards for the new EXT format. To me this just feels like they are just making a bigger version of Standard, and anyone that knows me knows I’m not a big fan of STD anymore since Ravnica rotated. I quit STD because once Lorwyn block came I found the format was rather dull for my tastes and kicked back to EXT and older Eternal formats. I just hope they decide to do the Extended plus otherwise to me this is just an extended standard.

Good reasoning and picking out the cards that will obviously be big players in the new format, but still not enough to have me interested in the format. The reason I liked EXT was that my cards I collected held their play value for 7 years, but now it’s reduced to 4. I can see the reasoning behind that, but I think WOTC shouldn’t have pulled the plug on EXT that fast without giving players another option such as Extended Plus.

  2. New extended seems alright, Just fire up those creative juices and make crazy extended decks

  3. I dont really play extended but now that it is less blocks with a more accessible card pool I will probably dip into it at some point. So in that respect I think this is a good change as I can see this also being the case for lots of other people.

On the other hand the hits it will make to peoples collections until this Extended+ format comes out is kind of annoying.

  4. Other Extended winners will be anything the Fae can use. Control decks will have to contend with it, and zoo aggro without the Ravnica duels will probably not be good enough.

I, for one, re-welcome our Fae overlords.

  5. I do not believe Fae will be as good as people are saying will be. I do know, however, know that many people will be running Fae, and picking up these cards for your collection are great bets.

In Amsterdam, I’ll be playing something that beats Fae.

  6. Bah..i dont play standard so i never bothered to buy any of the cards from recent standard deck so this sucks.

And I am really wondering why everyone keeps bringing up this Overextended format…it was an idea over on mtgsalvation…nothing wotc ever actually said

  7. i think Fae will be back in force, but I honestly don’t think it will be the best deck, just the one there in the biggest quantity. Now to win myself a PTQ so I can make a monstrosity to beat Fae as well.

Well written, and I hope you’re right there’s going to be a “new format” so that my 4 year ago investment in Ravnica Shocks doesn’t stay in the tanks

  8. I really like this new format and my shop might be having extended tournies now because people can just play their standard decks with only a few changes.

  9. @phfantom. I’m actually going to start buying up Ravnica Shocklands while they are in the tanks. MaRo actually said a few years ago that the reason the Shocklands had generic names was so they could be reprinted in the future. If you get them when they all hit ~$3-5, I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

  10. Fae was a good deck, but if you remember your standard meta game fae was eaten alive by Boat brew and BW tokens and lets not forget my personal favorite GW tokens.

  11. I’m kind of looking forward to this new extended mainly cause its got all the sets I played in more competitively and have plenty of cards in.
