  1. Wow, great topic for an opening discussion! I really like that you showed examples from real draft matches that you played.

  2. Good intro. One thing I am always impressed by in your videos is how much thinking you are able to cram into the drafting time limits. When I draft, I always feel like I’m scrambling for time, but it’s clear in your videos there’s plenty of time… as long as you know what to think about and how to think about it efficiently. That process might be an interesting opening discussion at some point in the future.

  3. I don’t think blue was not open, and beyond pick 5 in BNG there is often a drop in quality of the red cards. 7th pick you took a Reckless Reveler over a Retraction Helix, and while I agree that the Helix isn’t amazing, it’s still a better card and a better signal than what is essentially a Goblin Piker.

  4. Am I misreading Deserter’s Quarters? Shouldn’t you be able to keep more than one creature tapped with it? If you untap it on your turn and use it again in the same turn, shouldn’t both targets remain tapped during your opponent’s untap step? If so, you could have easily won the last game.

  5. EuNi: If it untaps, the effect on Polis Crusher ends; Theoretically if you had a Kiora’s Follower and 12 mana you could use it twice in a row before the first one resolved, but that was not an option here.

  6. EuNi – not exactly. The first creature will remain tapped during that turn, but untap as normal on the opponent’s upkeep. At least that’s how I think it works based on the way the ability is written. There are older cards with similar effects that were worded in such a way that untapping would cause a trigger, leaving you the opportunity to use the ability again before the trigger checks upon resolution. I don’t think that works with this card.

  7. Great intro! I’m definitely in the 50% that think most players are better than me. so winning anytime is a rush. I enjoyed your thoughts during the game and I think that unexpected scouring sands is what did you in.

  8. A bit late on this comment, but I really like the format where you just record yourself normally playing, and then go back and comment on any potentially interesting situations. I feel like it facilitates a thematic video or illustrating a specific point really well, as opposed to starting a draft and ex ante hoping something interesting or relevant will come up. Please do more of this!

  9. My favorite JBT draft video yet.
It’s one thing to know the correct lines, but to articulate them the way you do is something special.
