  1. I know that I am not a pro player but I play aggro loam in modern all the time, and today it hurt watching you play. You made so many mistakes, I know you are only human but when you did not take the champion in round 4 wow.

  2. Not taking the Champion was a calculated risk. I also have not played the matchup nearly enough to know how much I can sacrifice in order to take the Champion there.

This is where I’ve landed with the deck so far and still liking it:

    4 Blackcleave Cliffs
    2 Blood Crypt
    3 Graven Cairns
    2 Raging Ravine
    1 Stomping Ground
    1 Godless Shrine
    1 Overgrown Tomb
    4 Verdant Catacombs
    4 Arid Mesa
    1 Swamp
    1 Mountain
    1 Forest
    1 Ghost Quarter

    4 Tarmogoyf

    4 Faithless Looting
    3 Flame Jab
    4 Inquisition of Kozilek
    3 Raven’s Crime
    4 Life from the Loam
    4 Smallpox
    2 Terminate
    2 Lingering Souls
    4 Seismic Assault

    3 Ancient Grudge
    2 Garruk Relentless
    1 Ghost Quarter
    4 Kitchen Finks
    1 Lingering Souls
    1 Ray of Revelation
    3 Extirpate

I’ve haven’t played this deck and there isn’t even one person at my meta who does. I knew nothing about it or how to play against it until I watched the first couple rounds. But just knowing what the cards do makes it frustrating to watch gameplay with so many mistakes and such a lack of foresight.

You need to start reviewing your videos and thinking critically about how to improve your game, or you’re only going to keep forming bad habits and losing like this. (Remember: All Magic Players think that they’re winning more than they’re losing. This isn’t possible, and it’s not enough justification to start thinking, “I’m good at Magic.” Only winners are good at Magic. Everyone else is just having fun.)

  5. tl;dr: Keep up the effort. We can learn just as much from poor play as we could from excellent play.

  6. “Only winners are good at Magic.”

From what I know of truth tables, I’m pretty sure the implication here is that all players who are good at Magic are winners and more importantly, that no player who is good at Magic is a loser.

But… that last proposition seems absurd given my experiences.

  7. @Kynan: “Standard Spike” is the channel name, but he is not boxed in to only playing standard format only. This is especially true when standard is going through a major change with a set rotating out and a set rotating in. The one leaving played a huge part in the standard decks, so things are going to change a lot.

  8. Great vids man. No matter what people here say, the vids are great and I am thankful for your time and effort.

  9. After not taking the champ. Couldn’t you have eot grudged his thopter then gy grudged his 2 drop and poxed away champ the following turn?
