  1. A few things to say:
Maybe it is just me, but I think your volume is inconsistent in the videos, as I can hear you okay in one then have to turn you up in another or your voice will get a bit lower as a video progresses. Might want to try and work on that! I know I can turn my volume up, but it is actually on quite loud to be able to hear you clearly.

I don’t particularly agree with your choices in this draft, especially as I think that P1P1, artisan is much better than heat ray, or even kozilek’s predator. Heat ray is splashable, and I suppose it is okay to pick it, however the bomb creature in demon (heavy black commitment so I understand avoiding it for p1p1) or artisan is much greater. Then even if I picked heat ray pick 1, for pick 2 you have another chance at artisan, but you go for hatcher which I don’t think is the most powerful card at all. battlement would probably be my pick if i didnt pick artisan. however, going by your picks, I would definitely pick up the bloodthrone vampire and go for BR tokens on P1P3 instead of the vindicator. just some thoughts.

also I don’t know why your opponent scooped with 6 cards in hand at 11 vs 17 (14 when he attacks for the turn)…weird! he played awful in g1 and g2, not getting through a lot of extra damage when he could have. he can sac bloodthrone in his mainphase to itself on the last turn to not die, but since you are at 15, he can only do a maximum of 14 depending on your blocks so he loses anyway, but you had to draw very well to win that game…

i thought there was going to be a match 3, but I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how you could beat the round 2 opponent’s deck barring a situation like game 2 where he had 13 lands of 17-18 and you drew well.

you had good explanations for your actions, though I don’t always agree with the reasoning, and the videos are nicely done. looking forward to more!

better luck next time! also, there was no poll :-(

  2. General comment that applies to all the videos – could we get some volume modulation between the intro music and the video sound? The intro is WAY louder, so you either have a huge burst of sound or have to tweak your volume up and down between rounds.

    Thanks!

  3. We are going to work on the volume issues in the videos. Thanks for the comments!

  4. Regarding the poll we will do one soon soon to determine the preference of the audience in terms of formats.

  5. There actually is a bit of modulation done, to the highest variable possible. When I get his videos he is a bit quiet, I guess we’ll see whats up next time around :)

  6. As far as drafting goes, there seemed to be a good number of green aura’s and auras going around. and blue overall seemed weaker than i have seen in other RRR drafts.

  7. I’m sorry about the volume. I just got a new mic and thought that would take care of the issue. Apparently I need to work on that issue still.

  8. The moral of this story: Lust for War: stealing wins since 2010

  9. Interesting how awesome Lust for War seems to be in this format. I will definately pick it up if I see it in a draft now. Also, I don’t really understand picking heat ray first, I get that removal is important and that you always need at least some to be able to compete, but to pick it pack 1 pick 1 over some pretty big bombs?
    Seemed to work out though…

  10. Addressing the draft a little…
Everyone has different drafting styles, and I tend to steer clear of cards that force you into a color. That may not always be correct, and might even be something I should work on, but that’s why I don’t take Pestilence Demon in the first pack. I take Heat Ray there because it’s a card I can splash for and never really be upset with taking. I explain in the draft that staying open is important, but the key is finding a balance between staying open and sticking to what you’ve got. And that’s what makes drafting so challenging.

  11. Hey shipit,

Nice you moved your ass to work for a public magic site, but I’d like to see some written articles, too :)

  12. Nice video, good commentary on your own game. It’s impressive that you were able to do that with relatively few mistakes. Also kudos on keeping a good running narrative while the cards were not going your way in the second match.

I definitely learned something about drafting.
