  1. wow, Crazy story. I would have crapped my pants if an italian-looking wannabe-vampire tried to kick my ass.

Btw, I really enjoy your videos. Look forward to them every week.

    /IOwnU (on MTGO)

  2. Well, I was def scared, but in this Karmageddon sorta way. I run my mouth a lot; always have. And living in NYC, that doesn’t come without an occasional knock in the head or kick to the gut. Don’t get me wrong, I lose more than I win – the moral of the story is: Travvy ain’t no stranger to confrontation – be it with fists, on the dancefloor, or with cardboard pictures of monstahs!

I really like this deck, which is weird because you could opt out entire chunks of it. normally I go for tighter builds (heh), but this time it was more about preference, nostalgia, and, as always, not being so obvious (as to play R/B vamps – yuk!) Try it out, change it up, it’s a def fun deck!

  3. Travis, I’ve only played Commander a few times IRL and not at all online. But week after week I too look forward to your videos! Definitely some of the best MTG content on the web period. Thanks for the vids and by the way has anyone told you that you look like John C. Mcginley in this picture yet?

  4. Thanks for the words. Remember this come next Community Cup!

I have never heard this comparison before. I have gotten: Adam Sandler (more when both Adam and I were younger), a tattooed Don Draper (I guess bc I have a part in my hair and wear nice clothes???), and Anthony Kiedis circa LA Lakers games – this one is actually bizarrely accurate in terms of our faces – def not the muscleage!

One time I saw this weird mountain climber photo in an encyclopedia from Sweden and it was like looking into a mirror. It actually disturbed me, like this guy had my DNA, or I his rather. I wish I woulda saved the pic. Creepsville!

  5. As for weird look-a-likes, I once saw a guy on awkwardbones.com that looked almost exactly like me… wait, I better stop the story here.

Anyway, I think this is one of your more interesting creations, sempei Chance, and I can’t wait to see what you’ve got in store for us next.

  6. Sooooo this weeks vids.
First of all, let me start out by saying that I very much liked your deck this time around. I think it to be one of your – if not the – best non-comboish (like Bantchantress or “Bling Bling” Esper) deck you’ve ever build.

The discard sinergies are just great and I was like “Wtf, why have I never seen Sangromancer being abused in Commander before?”

Buuuuut here’s the but: So as far as I understand you’re doing quite well for yourself, right?
If so, why on freaking earth are you not buying a goddamn new computer?
I honestly skip so much of your lategames cuz I can’t bear your “lagging” and clicking around.
I mean as far as I can tell you are using MacBook running Windows XP (!). Which leads me to the conclusion that my smartphone has around twice the power your that your Laptop does….

    ;-)

  7. Hmm. I am not claiming to be the most computer savvy guy alive, but that’s a bold statement. I doubt your smartphone has the processing speed, hard drive space, etc of a contemporary macbook pro. Unless you cell provider is The MI6. The issue is using a parallels program. In terms of lag, this I don’t get. I don’t have a lot of lag issues. Perhaps you are commenting on the plodding speed at which I play… because I am making a video, explaining my plays, and rambling into a mic. My Mac is fine, better than fine. Next time you are doing something you normally do alone, stop, setup a mic, explain it step by step, try and infuse humor while being clear as to why you are doing what you are doing, make sure to eliminate as much distraction in terms of noise, and then see if it doesn’t take you longer than if you just did it the normal way. Then try and think of a new way to do that, week after week after week.

Not as easy as you may think, hence why not so many people make vids, and even less are compensated to do so. I take no offense here, just don’t quite get what you’re driving at. I do my thang, dat’s it.

  8. I don’t think you are playing slow Travis. I’m a bit of a techy and also addicted to the internet. So trust me that I know lagg when I see it. Also if your Mac is fine, why are you still running Win XP? ;)

  9. Bc I had a free version of it from work – and, according to the research I did, it is the more stable platform for cross OS sillyness. That really kinda makes no sense, what you are asking. It’s like saying: if you have a $100 why don’t you spend all of it instead of $80? And if you don’t that means that that $100 is no worth $5! I don’t want the most current Windows OS. I work for a multimillion dollar company that doesn’t use the most current Windows OS, as it is riddled with issues, for literally ANYTHING it does, which is all largely digital.

Also, saying “you are addicted to the internet” doesn’t scream technologically advanced either. That sounds like something my grandma would say to try and relate to me. Again, weird way of getting your point across: “I love cooking, so I watch a ton of horror movies.”

  10. Because you love something, doesn’t mean you understand it. Furthermore, “love the internet” is so broad, vague, and in no way implies a discipline or knowhow that I can’t help but laugh a little.

So far you have went from “your macbook is slow” to “my smartphone is better” to “I am addicted to the internet” to “you are lagging” to “why are you running an older Windows OS” to “you are lagging.” All of this equates to me, you know very little to nothing about technology, whatsoever. I think a tech savvy person would understand that since I live in one of the most densely populated cities in the United States, amidst a battery of wireless interference, low-yield electromagnetic activity from subways and electrical conduit in a highly conductive environment, bandwidth leeching, and general wireless hiccups would factor that into BAD WIRELESS not a subpar computer.

Lastly, as the person making the videos, playing these games, using this internet, that is not even the correct assessment. If I made a pie chart with how often I lag it would be but an elf finger wide. This is just a classic case of pontification, which one should not try when dealing with moi. I got whips where the words should be, kiddo!

  11. Well I’m a trained Network technican and as far as I know our bandwith over here is laughable compared to what you guys got. Still we can run Modo smoothly. Maybe I put it the wrong way at first so get this:
I’m fairly certain that your laggs are caused by your hardware ans thous I should have never called em laggs. But youre getting my point. Maybe it’s even cuz modo wasn’t desinged for Mac.
But whatevs I’ll shout now bc as you said in the end you are the guy making the vids.

One more thing: don’t be to proud of yourself bc you’re ” winning” an English word battle against a German guy. Maybe I’ll comment in german next time…

  12. I don’t care what language you or anyone else speaks; you started a line of dialogue from which you deviated considerably (and in no discernible way that had anything to do with a language barrier). My point was maybe you should not provoke an intellectual argument with the platform “I love the internet, therefore I am right.” I’m sure that sounds equally ridiculous in any language. The lesson here is don’t pick fights you can’t win/act as though you are above the fights you pick. No one is “winning” here, just wasting time.

I don’t really now what you want me to say/do? Sure, I get compensated, but not enough to purchase another laptop to circumnavigate something that no one has ever commented on before. To this end, I can only assume it is the equivalent of someone saying, you should have picked this instead of that in a draft. Shrug.

Yes, Modo is not supported by Mac, hence why I am running a parallel program – hence occasional issues which a lot of people in this situation experience. Things are fine on the Mac side. Windows is lagging bc a second OS is piggybacking the intended one, which seems pretty obvious to me, but as a techno guy I am sure you know this. When the new Modo is net based, this shouldn’t be an issue. Until then, purporting that the lag in my vids is this unbearable crucible which you must endure seems an overstatement, and one intended to start this poo flinging nonsense.

  13. You’re always picking on particular statements of mine which I make after you got me wrong already.
I just said “I love the internet” because I didn’t want to sound like a smug saying “well I’m an expert on this” etc. etc.

And after all I was right.
It’s a problem with your computer and not as you said bandwith, electrical interference or something. Since your Mac does have problems with Windows (as you stated) .
But nowadays Macs are mostly using PC hardware so especially Win XP should not be a problem at all. Which again leads me to believe that your Mac is quite old.

Another thing would be if you are merely emulating Windows instead of having a dual-boot. In that case running Modo surely would be exhausting for your Mac.
You might consider setting up a dual-boot then.

But if you don’Ttwant to – here’s to hoping for net based Modo.

  14. My Mac is a year and a half old, so no, you are not right, as it is the program, not the hardware. I mentioned mitigating factors for NYC inhabitants that make wireless a real pain, but you don’t seem to understand what I am saying as how that would attribute to the lag issue you were suggesting (when you didn’t mean lag).

But please, pat yourself on the back. I will run out the door and buy a new computer to your specifications ASAP! My Mac was dredged from the ocean floor in 238 AD by a group on vampirates off the coast of what is now call France. It was at first thought to the the cybernetic foreskin of Christ, but when it was discovered to not run Modo reliably, it was tossed back in the ocean, at which point I found it on a beach somewhere (shrug). Oh wait, my Mac isn’t in front of you. You are watching a recording. And you don’t live in NYC or know what it’s like to have constant cell and wireless issues, which are blamed for the amount of people using those devices in a concentrated area made of metal and asphalt.

Congrats! You spent an entire day arguing with me with the hopes of being right in a public forum. Truly, you are a winner. My suggestion to you, as the videos are free, would be: don’t watch them.

  15. I like these videos almost as much as I like the cut of your jib.

I look forward to your content every week. Keep up the good work Travis.

  16. Well at first you told me you’re just playing slow. At least now you see the problem.
Hint: Modo needs very little bandwith so mere Wireless issues sure won’t cause this kind of “lagg”.
But I don’t know why we’re talking about lagg again anyways bc we agreed it’s because of emulation issues.
Still if you want, you know how to fix em now
And all though I did not mean lagg it’s still the same result – your Mac reacts veeery slow and delayed.

  17. Just tell us that you dont want to “fix” it because its too expensive, bothersome or you dont feel like it needs to be fixed at all. In the end its about who is gonne deal with it and its your very right to say “not me”. These are really entertaining free vids and im sure eXXa is as grateful for them as me.

Sometimes it seems to be difficult to convey an advice without the adviced feeling pissed off for whatever reason. As eXXa stated it only happens at endgame stages so i wouldnt take it personal regarding commetating and stuff, we love your commentating ;)

im sorry i butted in, im a peace loving jerk

AND… its a really fun looking deck. I would cut some 6 and 7 drops as they seem to cause more trouble than being useful in your games. I really feel like its those 3-4 drops that win your games with that nice synergy you have going on.

  18. i agree, your modo runs terribly slow (respond time to clicks). prob due to hardware and/or the recordage.

  19. I dunno what to say more on this topic – this is what I have, this is what I use, and will continue using. I have indicated multitudinous factors, but they are being glossed over in some united Windows user front, so shrug. If it’s too bothersome to watch the free entertaining videos, I do not have any suggestions.

With regard to the deck, I agree the high end is scary as hell with Tutelage and Confidant. I love both of those cards so much, always wanting to play them, so I decided to not throw caution to the wind and ride the snake. Def not my tightest build, but daggumit the thing sure can be fun! I kept the big daddies for fun factor. I mean, you have to play K-to-the-Vek-to-the-Merciless!

I think next vid will be a reboot of my Sedris Reanimator/Death deck. A dillion new cards have come out to make it even more gross than it was in the prior two incarnations. I am not playing as much Modo as normal with it being the busy season at my job. Long, soul-sucking hours make Travvy a dull boy. If there is something in particular with a deck you freaks would like to see, make mention.

  20. Only suggesting an upgrade bro…
You know damn well I like you and your vids. But hell if you don’t wanna you don’t wanna.
However, Sedris next week will make me a pretty god damn happy panda, if you know what I mean.

  21. Why are you fighting about a dudes computer choice? Seems fine to me, and I seen like all his vidz from way back. Give a dude a break. And you obv know nothing about computers if you are questioning why anyone would use XP for optimal parallel platform performance. It is the recommended OS for Windows when doing so. It is dumbed down, streamlined, and perfect for doing nothing more than playing a game like Modo.

  22. Since you asked for suggestions, here’s mine… I know the commander decks have been out for a while now, but I think you could do a great rendition of a Damia deck. Maybe some kind of alternative take on it with Aluren and some combo win cons. It seems like there’s a lot of really interesting ways to build around Damia, a few of which are unexplored.

  23. I played this deck and it found it so f’ing slow and prick touchish that people were scooping and blocking me. I would not recomend it, if you wanna make a few friends online. Better for enemies.

  24. why not just run ambitions cost and mind’s eye?? it seems soooo much better than tutelage and confidant. 2 cards that probably aren”t even good anyways are completely constricting what you can play in your deck. It seems like a really bad idea.

  25. Josh,

This is a mana intensive deck. Mind’s Eye doesn’t help in this punishing economy. Cost doesn’t give me the constant flow. There wasn’t much in the high end I had to forgo for these cards, also. And, lastly, I guess you just ignored the multiple comments in this forum and in the video where I cite the risk vs. reward, justifying it as something I wanted to try out after many times of benching them. It was an experiment, factoring in the high starting life total of the format and ability to swing over starting life easily.

Not a good listener, eh? Or are you just hear to puff your chest and seem smarter than you are?

  26. Hope you get back to this nonsense sometime. I miss listening to people complaining about people complaining about the format.

  27. Hey Travis,
I’m just wondering what your new deck was going to be about, and I thought of a General/Commander that seems to follow the Combo-Oriented Style of the decks you have posted recently. This General would be: Riku of Two Reflections. This guy practically screams BROKEN! He (Or rather THEY…) serve as a “Mirari” and a never-ending clone… I’ve been brewing up something with this General, and found him to be great with spells like “Time Warp” and “Temporal Manipulation”. He could also be used to copy small rampant growths, or as a finisher: “Searing Wind”. While RUG isn’t the strongest of color combinations, I predict that Riku could bring the best of those three colors together and combo-out very quickly.
Please let me know, and happy brewing!
