  1. of course this happens every time a new set starts to get spoiled… it seems like every current archetype just gets incredibly stronger.

GW travel preps, UW sacrificial humans, Ux mill, burning vengeance… all seem like they are getting key cards and upgrades.

however what normally happens is that a new archetype rises out of the new set and out of the new limited format that’s completely different than what we were used to before.

  2. glad to see a little peak of a mutli colored card.
Block just got serious… especially boros and splinterfright

  3. also about old archtypes is the fact that they become harder to draft because with the new drafting order you can count less on getting some key uncommons like Burning Vengence etc.

  4. Cant wait to see the equipment, Elbrus, The Binding Blade. For 7 casting cost, might be nuts!

  5. Jar of eyeballs REEEEAAAALLLY seems like it should be uncommon. Oh well. Still loving everything I’ve seen of the new set!

  6. Jar seems like a super late-game tutor in limited, or maybe an overpriced non-black Demonic Tutor in a weird constructed combo deck with a sacrifice engine. Seems bad to me; Parallel Lives makes the flavor funny.

Even if Ghoultree just plain cost 4 or 5 mana, I’m not even sure it’d be that good in Standard. Vanilla fat guys suck.

  7. The old dream: assembling the throne of empires combo in M12 draft.(I’ve gotten the pieces but it never came together in the games)
The current dream: Essence of the Wild plus Spider spawning for a million 6/6′s in INN draft.(I’ve only had this one played against me, never done it myself.)
The new dream: returning Grimgrin with Havegul Lich in INN/DA draft.

  8. Séance is perfect. You hold a séance to request aid from the dead. Not to conjure up a minion to do your dirty work. That is why it is white and not black.

  9. Oh man, Wizards hasn;t cared about the color pie for years. It’s cool that so many people still believe.

  10. Am I the only one that is saddened by 5/5 flying creatures for 6 mana that have a lackluster ability? Moonveil Dragon :[

Sylvan- who cares about the color of cards?! Just play whatev you want! :]

  11. “Am I the only one that is saddened by 5/5 flying creatures for 6 mana that have a lackluster ability?”

No. I can’t believe they basically reprinted a harder-to-cast Shivan Dragon as a mythic. :( The problem with cards like Moonveil Dragon is that when Timmies get excited to play them because of their “neat” abilities (in this case, firebreathing for the team), they figure out quickly that the ability is no better than the one on Shivan Dragon because it’s the only creature out on the board, or because if they have a ton of creatures and mountains out, the would’ve killed them with a single fly-over from the solo-attacking Moonveil anyway.

Basically, what I’m trying to say is that Moonveil Dragon is a card that aims to impress excitable Timmies but can only disappoint them whenever they manage to cast it.

  12. Lambholt elder, the green uncle of Scroll Thief lol
I guess Beguiler of wills will also have to wait until gut shot rotates…

  13. “Am I the only one that is saddened by 5/5 flying creatures for 6 mana that have a lackluster ability?”

No. I just hate that for a set that is supposed to care about flavor, they still print a card a card that amounts to ‘big dumb dragon’. Way to set the world on fire Wizards(pun intended) It’s weird that they do such a good job with flavor on random commons and uncommons but totally punt when it comes to about half their mythics. You know, the cards that are supposed to be the most flavorful.

It’s a total shame this card is in the same set as the totally awesome(flavor wise) Jar of eyeballs.

  14. the “moon is good” theme was a part of Innistrad’s flavor – why not carry it onward to Dark Ascension? I personaly think a moon themed dragon is cool. true, the theme is only showcased throough art and text, not through mechanics, but I still like the card. I also think commons should have more to do with the feel of the set than mythic rares.

  15. Especially with a card whose time has come, Hex Parasite. Get your playset before they spike!

  16. mmmm… we get our first black undying creature… the grimgrin speculation is complete! who’s got their playsets already
